Frequently Asked Questions

Focus on four things: a complete Google Business Profile with steady reviews, pages that name your genre and your city, images Google can read, and a few honest links from venues and vendors who know your work. The fastest on-page fix is your title tags, written as "[Service] Photographer in [City] | [Studio Name]." Expect 3 to 6 months for measurable improvement and 6 to 12 months for significant organic leads, though your Google Business Profile and reviews can move faster.
There's no magic number; it depends on your market. Search your main service plus your city in an incognito window, check the review counts of the three businesses in the map pack, and that's your benchmark. In most mid-sized markets the floor sits around 20 to 50 reviews, while top studios in major metros often have 100 to 300 or more. Recency matters as much as volume, so aim for one review a week. That's 52 in a year.
Make your website easy for AI assistants to find, read and trust. That work is called answer engine optimization (AEO), and it overlaps heavily with SEO: ChatGPT gathers candidates from profiles, maps, directories, links and reviews, then reads a few pages and names the top few. An AI-aware robots.txt that welcomes AI crawlers by name, accurate schema and a clean sitemap do about 80% of the work. Also keep your text as text, not words baked into images.
The best one fits how your studio gets inquiries, follows up and books sessions, not the one with the prettiest template. For an established studio that needs funnels, direct integrations and detailed measurement, we recommend our managed custom React/Next.js build. For do-it-yourself, Showit gives the most visual freedom, Squarespace is the easiest polished starter, Pixieset is strongest when galleries drive the decision, and WordPress suits content-heavy sites if someone will maintain it properly.
Usually because visitors can't tell what you specialize in or what to do next. Many photography sites send everyone to a homepage that mixes every genre. Give each genre its own landing page with one clear objective, put a contact form on every page, write copy about the client's experience rather than your gear, and make sure it looks great on mobile, where around 80% of traffic now arrives. Then track your rate: 3 inquiries from 100 visitors is 3%.
Earn them from local businesses that already serve your clients. Email five local venues, event spaces or complementary businesses and offer to be featured in a blog post or vendor spotlight; most say yes because it's free content for them too. Create case studies of clients doing something well and invite them to link to it, and publish genuinely useful content people want to reference. Never buy links. Google penalizes link schemes, and the risk outweighs any short-term gain.
