Frequently Asked Questions

Run a system, not a single channel. Fully booked photographers use several channels that feed each other, so pick three to five that fit your budget and time and master them before adding more. Google Ads and direct outreach are the fastest. Referrals and SEO are the most durable and compound over 12 to 18 months. Most of all, keep marketing when the calendar is full. Photographers who only market when they're slow stay inconsistent.
We believe it's boudoir. Boudoir clients invest in an experience and an emotional transformation, so they are far less price-sensitive than wedding or family clients. Boudoir studios using in-person sales consistently reach $2,500 to $4,500 or more per client, versus $300 to $700 from online gallery sales. When we compared Google Trends, boudoir searches were climbing while wedding and family searches declined, and related searches for pricing and "near me" showed people looking to book.
Usually not. One of our studios gets about 200 leads a month, but fewer than 25% schedule a consult, so more leads would mostly mean more unworked leads. Fix follow-up first: call new leads fast and keep calling, replace calendar links in texts with real questions that start conversations, and listen to your recorded consults to improve them. Then keep emailing and retargeting past leads, so bookings from earlier months stack on top of this month's.
Build a referral system instead of hoping for word of mouth. Give every client something to hand off: a gift certificate addressed to a specific friend, with a real dollar value, an expiration date and room for a personal note. Then ask three times: lightly at the reveal, with the gift certificate email about a week after the session, and with a warm check-in 30 days later. Make it a gift, not a discount, and thank the referrer when someone books.
Build a Dream 100: a list of 100 businesses and influencers who already serve your ideal client without competing with you, such as bridal boutiques, gyms, OBGYNs, real estate agents and planners. Start with the top 10, open a genuine conversation, and look for ways to help them and their clients before you ask for anything. The goal is integration, like a bridal boutique that includes your engagement session with a dress purchase, so both businesses feed each other clients.
Use Profit First: take your profit out first and run the business on what's left. Open separate accounts for Income, Profit, Owner's Pay, Tax and Operating Expenses, and split every client payment by percentage before paying any bills. Long-term targets are roughly 5 to 10% profit, 50% owner's pay, 15% tax and 25 to 30% operating expenses. Start from your real numbers and shift 1 to 2% a quarter. The separate accounts are the point, not an option.
