Chapter 13

Basic Tracking

Understand the minimum GA4, GTM, Google Ads, and Meta tracking foundation for a studio.

Build the minimum foundation before optimizing

Tracking is useful when each platform can recognize the same meaningful action. Start with the smallest foundation that tells you when a prospective client becomes a lead.

The five parts to set up

  1. Google Tag Manager

Install one container so the tracking tags below have a single, manageable home.

  2. Google Analytics 4

Use GA4 to understand which pages and traffic sources bring people to your studio website.

  3. Google Ads conversion tracking

Connect the lead event to Google Ads so campaign decisions can use conversions rather than clicks alone.

  4. Meta Pixel

Add the Meta Pixel so Meta campaigns can receive the same lead signal.

  5. One verified lead event

Submit a real test inquiry, then verify that the same lead event appears where you expect it in GTM, GA4, Google Ads, and Meta.

Use the free GA4 template for the setup

The existing template walks through the basic implementation. Use it to establish the foundation, then verify the lead event before relying on the reports.
