SEO takes 6–18 months. Your business needs revenue now. Here's why photographers who rely on SEO alone stay stuck — and what to do instead.
0:00Is SEO killing your photography business?
0:02Hey, it's Amador Garcia, and today we're
0:04going to be talking about why focusing in
0:06on SEO to grow your photography business
0:08might actually be doing more harm than
0:10good. Now I'm going to preface this by
0:13saying that SEO is actually one of the
0:14most important things you can do,
0:15especially if you're going to be in
0:17business for a long time. So to
0:18illustrate this, I'm going to give you a
0:19scenario where there's two identical
0:21photographers, and we're going to pretend
0:23that they're both competing in the same
0:24genre. They have the same skills, the same
0:27equipment, and the same social network.
0:29And imagine that they're trying to both
0:30scale their businesses at the same time.
0:32They have a limited fund of about a
0:34thousand dollars that they can use to
0:36either advertise, work on SEO,
0:38create content. And in this scenario, they
0:41both have brand new websites. And let's
0:43pretend that Photographer A takes all
0:44the resources, all their time, and they
0:46even outsource someone to do backlinking
0:49for them and to do their SEO work. Now
0:51this photographer might start seeing
0:53some results after about five, six, seven
0:55months, depending on how difficult it is
0:57to rank for that keyword. Now let's
0:59pretend that the other photographer, they
1:02took all their resources, and they
1:04started investing in Google Ads, in
1:06Facebook Ads, and they optimized their
1:08website. And we're also going to assume
1:10that Photographer B just gets normal,
1:12maybe slightly above-average results on
1:15their Facebook Ads and their Google Ads,
1:16and they start getting inquiries. And
1:18let's just say they invest about two to
1:20three hundred dollars the first month, and
1:21maybe they get three to four bookings.
1:23Well, now they have more content. They
1:25have more social media images. They have
1:27more blog posts to put up. They have more
1:29video content that they can possibly be
1:31recording. And they have more people
1:33generating more revenue. And of all those
1:36people that they've already shot. Now
1:38they have more possibilities for
1:39referral. And in this scenario,
1:41Photographer A is still waiting to
1:43basically show up at the top of the
1:44search results, not even knowing when
1:46their site is going to be indexed, when it's
1:48going to start showing up, because being on
1:50page two and page three isn't that
1:52helpful, especially considering the old
1:53saying that the best place to hide a
1:55dead body is on the second page of
1:57Google. I'm going to go back to the original
1:59point that I was trying to make, not that
2:01SEO is not important and it won't get
2:03your result. It absolutely will. Having
2:05the first listing on the first page can
2:07mean tens of thousands of dollars for
2:09your business.
2:09But when you're first starting out and
2:11you need content and you need cash flow,
2:13the fastest way to do that is by
2:15skipping the line with Google Ads and
2:16Facebook Ads. Because at the end of the
2:19day, once you start getting results for
2:20yourself, then you're basically going to be
2:22generating more revenue so you can pay
2:23for your previous ads, pay for more ads,
2:25and then hopefully outsource any content,
2:28any SEO work that you actually need to
2:29get done. And hopefully that makes sense.
2:31But if you disagree, I want to know why
2:33in the comments. I've seen this time and
2:36time again, photographers with almost no
2:38following, no likes on Facebook, nowhere
2:40to be found on organic search. They can
2:42instantly start injecting a lot more
2:44revenue into the business with paid
2:45advertisement, while the organic search
2:48results catch up in the meantime. So
2:50please, if you like this content and you
2:51want to see more of it, like and
2:53subscribe. And I'll see you in the next
2:55video.
